How proposals are assessed

Every application follows a structured multi-stage review designed to ensure independent, merit-based evaluation under MoHERST oversight.

I

Eligibility Review

Your proposal is checked against gazette eligibility criteria for the chosen programme. Ineligible submissions are notified within five working days with written rationale.

II

Technical Evaluation

An independent expert panel scores each proposal against published criteria: methodology, innovation potential, feasibility, and measurable impact on The Gambia's knowledge economy.

III

Board Recommendation

Shortlisted proposals are presented to the NRIF Board, who issue a formal recommendation for award or deferral with written rationale.

IV

Award & Disbursal

Successful applicants receive a formal award notice via this portal and registered email. Funds are disbursed in tranches against agreed milestones.

Applicant guidance

Eligibility varies by programme. Accredited Gambian research institutions, universities, and registered enterprises may apply. Each gazette specifies eligible entity types, residency requirements, and sector restrictions.
Review timelines differ by programme. Expected decision dates are published on each programme's gazette page. Real-time status updates are available in your applicant workspace dashboard once you submit.
Yes. Proposals auto-save to your workspace as drafts. You may return at any time before the gazette close date. Submitted proposals cannot be amended without a formal request to the secretariat.
Required documentation varies by programme but typically includes: a completed proposal form, institutional endorsement letter, principal investigator curriculum vitae, a detailed budget breakdown, and supporting technical annexes. Full requirements are listed on each programme's gazette page.
