Programme Description

Supports innovators and entrepreneurs in developing, prototyping, and scaling innovations from concept through to market readiness and commercialisation.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Lead Applicants

  • Registered Gambian startups (company registration under the Companies Act)
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) registered in The Gambia with fewer than 250 employees
  • Innovation hubs, incubators, and accelerators registered in The Gambia
  • Social enterprises with a primary social or environmental mission

Key Eligibility Conditions

  • The innovation must address a documented Gambian challenge and have primary relevance to The Gambia's development context
  • The lead applicant must be majority-owned (>50%) by Gambians or Gambian residents. Applications from diaspora-led businesses with active Gambian operations will be considered under Window X
  • For Pilot and Market Readiness stages, a working prototype or proof-of-concept must have been completed prior to application
  • Applicants receiving Market Readiness grants must provide evidence of confirmed co-investment of at least 25% of the NRIF grant value
  • Purely commercial activities with no clear innovation or social impact component are ineligible
  • Applications for import/distribution of existing products without significant local adaptation or innovation are not eligible

Disqualifying Factors

  • Outstanding regulatory violations or tax arrears
  • Prior NRIF grant in default or under investigation
  • Proposal that primarily funds normal business operating costs
