Programme Description

Supports research and innovation projects that involve Gambian diaspora members or international partners, facilitating knowledge transfer, joint research, and global collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Lead Applicants

  • Gambia-based institutions (universities, research institutions, government agencies, registered enterprises) in partnership with a diaspora professional or international institution
  • Gambian diaspora professionals (Gambian citizens or persons of Gambian heritage) based outside The Gambia, with a formal Gambian institutional host
  • Diaspora-led businesses registered in The Gambia or in the process of registration, with an active Gambian operation

Diaspora Professional Definition

  • Gambian citizens, dual nationals, or persons of Gambian heritage living outside The Gambia, who hold professional qualifications relevant to the proposed project
  • Non-Gambian professionals may participate as co-investigators but not as lead applicants under the diaspora strand

Gambian Anchor Conditions

  • At least 60% of project activities or direct beneficiaries must be in The Gambia
  • A Gambian institutional host must co-sign all diaspora-led applications and accept responsibility for in-country project management
  • A knowledge and technology retention plan is mandatory

Financial Conditions

  • International partners may receive sub-grants, but the majority of funds (at least 50%) must be spent in The Gambia
  • All foreign exchange transactions must comply with Central Bank of The Gambia regulations
