Program Description

Overview

Window X recognises that The Gambia's development potential is significantly enhanced by the skills, networks, remittances, and global knowledge of its large diaspora community. It also acknowledges the value of structured international research partnerships in building Gambia's scientific and innovation standing. This window funds collaborative projects where Gambian diaspora professionals or reputable international institutions partner with Gambia-based institutions to transfer knowledge, skills, and resources for national development.

Types of Eligible Projects

  • Diaspora Knowledge Transfer: Gambian diaspora professionals partnering with Gambian institutions to share specialised expertise, conduct applied research, or establish professional networks
  • International Research Partnerships: Joint research projects between Gambian institutions and internationally recognised universities, research institutes, or international organisations
  • Diaspora Investment and Innovation: Diaspora-led businesses or social enterprises establishing operations in The Gambia with an innovation or research component
  • Technology Transfer and Adaptation: Adapting internationally proven technologies or research methodologies to the Gambian context in partnership with originators

Gambian Anchor Requirement

All Window X projects must have a substantive Gambian anchor: either a Gambia-based lead institution managing the project, or a Gambian diaspora professional serving as principal investigator with a Gambian institutional host. The majority of project activities (at least 60%) must take place in The Gambia or directly benefit Gambians.

Knowledge and Technology Retention

All Window X projects must include a knowledge and technology retention plan specifying how the expertise and results generated through international collaboration will be embedded in Gambian institutions and remain accessible after the international partner's involvement ends.
